Well, I came across an opportunity that may make me take the plunge on a 1909s VDB. I'm hoping someone here can attribute the coin from the images provided using the mintmark placement. (Apologies in advance since the lighting was overhead fluorescent lights and my phone didn't do well .... again.) I know there are known MM locations for the 1914D and I'm hoping the same is true for this sVDB. I won't be able to get better images unless I pull the trigger and buy it. And while you're at it, let me know your thoughts on the grade if you can, given the images. Thanks in advance for any and all help. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. Pete, it appears to be MS grade. But in the picture, there appears to be splotchiness around the mint mark which would concern me. I would not risk that much money on an uncertified coin which is targeted by scammers.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

It looks genuine to me. The mintmark position matches position #3, and the VDB looks correct. I'd say AU-53, without much luster.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I really appreciate the input. The lighting at the shop interfered with clear images
Hondo, The lack of lighting and subsequent darkness is evidently hiding that this is an AU coin tops. I do have concerns about it possibly being "cleaned". (Somewhat uneven colors, more on the rev than the obv.)
Collectordetector, that's the link I was looking for. Thank you immensely for that.
Zurie, I was thinking low AU as well with the "flatness" on the facial features and rev. color. I also agree that the MM location seems to line up with #3 in the link.
Hmmm ....

I see what appears to be flatness on Lincoln cheek so AU at best for grade. MM position and VDB font appear to be correct - but I am not an expert on this coins diagnostics and could be fooled by a well make fake. To me, the decision on purchase would be resolved if the seller 'guaranteed authenticity' by giving you time to send to ANACS at your expense. If judged not authentic then able to return for refund. But then - why did the seller not already do this for such an expensive coin? Best of wishes with your decision.

Ungraded/unauthenticated with uneven color...oh boy...I would be wheel'n and deal'n. Low VF money because you're taking the risk. Otherwise...just buy an already slabbed one. Keep us posted! smat

Genuine die #3 coin. What do they want for it?

I agree with everyone here about the concerns expressed but also about matching Die # 3. I've gotten some authentic, good deals from the seller. He said the collector he bought this from is looking to upgrade to an MS coin and needed to cash this one out first. The person that is currently selling it said the previous collector has bought items from him before. So theirs isn't a fly-by-night relationship which is reassuring. I'll definitely hone my haggling skills on this one. Quote: What do they want for it? Can't reveal that yet because if I pull the trigger I will submit it to JBuck to be used in the GTP game. Thanks again for all the comments.

We need to see a closeup of the MM. There should be a lump inside the upper loop of the S.

i have it at obv die #3 also even though the camera angle is just slightly tilted.
the coin looks legit. not sure about an old cleaning as someone stated but the coin has a very flat look to it for an AU coin so it is possible. I think its closer to AU50 than a 53
the coin would warrant authentication and grading and to determine is it was in fact cleaned or if it would pass straight

Looks OK , a close-up of the MM would help.

Well, I pulled the trigger thanks in part to everyone here. (And no, I'm not blaming you if it's not genuine. LOL) The links to the die pairs and overall consensus were just what I needed. Here are some better images, in spite of my shakey digits. Thanks again.
