I am waiting for my GSA 1884-CC Morgan to arrive, and I was doing some research it. Should I leave it in it's GSA Holder, or submit it for TPG? I noticed that NGC keeps it in the GSA holder and attaches a grading band on the outside of the case (although it looks like it would tear off easily). Does PCGS (more prestigious) or ANACS attribute the GSA as well?  Are there any Forum members who own one of these NGC GSA CC's? stock photoImage Insert: stock photoImage Insert: success, |

I bought a GSA CC Morgan from one of our CCF members last month. It's not a certified GSA like you're speaking about but IMHO the only reason to get one certified would be if it's a high grade like the one in the pic you posted.
They're all uncirculated (MS) by definition and there's no big jump in value until you hit 65. Very few GSA CC Morgan's will grade 65. Mine is likely a 62, so there's no reason to ceritify. When you get yours post some pics and we can take a shot at a grade.

All the grading services will put the GSA pedigree on the slab but only NGC will leave it in OGP. IMO, a CC outside of the OGP is just another run-of-the-mill CC(if there is such a thing) but the packaging is what makes it special.

I agree with the others....having the coin in the GSA holder is what makes these CC Morgan dollars special. |

After the collection I saw this weekend. I would leave it as is. There was a Gentleman there in Lincoln showing his collection of GSA CC's and I am telling you These were all NGC graded and what a collection. Awesome to say the least. It was a real treat to talk with him as he was very edcational on the GSA. He had just upraded his 1890 CC to MS 65 in the GSA. Talked with Dawson and I a good 10-15 mins.

Leave it in the GSA. Let everyone else crack theirs out and yours will go up in value!

I agree with all the bove, if you send it to anywhere but NGC you will do the coin a great injustice because once its out of the GSA holder its just another Morgan graded by a TPG no matter if the label says its a GSA or not |

I bought my first CC Morgan 12 years ago (an 1881) in a GSA holder and decided to crack it out for ANACS grading. They gave it an MS-65 which was great, but I wish now that I had left it in the GSA case. If you want yours graded, by all means let NGC do it so you keep it in the original packaging.

I'd leave it in the GSA case for sure (IE NGC). The Chinese counterfeiters are at least a few years away on them!

I've got a 1885cc in the GSA holder and I will keep it in the holder.Like stated previously take it out and it's just another Morgan silver dollar. Unless it will get ms-65 the price doesn't change much so would it be worth getting certified? |
