I live in Canada, collect coins, and know where I would buy or sell near me. My sister lives in Utah and has a couple of 1 oz. Maple Leaf coins she wants to sell. She called me for advice, but I don't live there so I don't know if she would do best at a coin store or some financial institution in the Salt Lake area.

I would suggest she uses Google to look up coin stores in her area and then call around to see who has the best price. She needs to keep in mind that the price quoted is based on the spot price at the time of the call and unless the dealer lets her lock it in, the sell price may change when the sale happens. The pro with this method is she can get paid right away, not have to pack and ship the items, and may even get cash if that is what she prefers.

Another option is for her to contact an online dealer like APMEX or SD Bullion. They will lock in a price (qualifier being it has to be shipped and tracking provided within a certain timeframe). I found that APMEX had better buy prices than my local coin shops, but then the cost of shipping eroded that difference. Plus, the possible hassle of the shipment getting lost and waiting for the payment made me decide to sell to my LCS.

That is sound advice, thanks. I have found that coin dealers are usually a better bet than jewelry stores and other sources that deal in silver and gold.

They found a local shop who was helpful to deal with, so all is resolved.

That's great. Would love to hear what kind of price they received on the Maples if she is willing to share.
