Recently got my hands on one 1953 Canada coin set. These are not in the catalogs as RCM just experimented at the time, but apparently were offered for purchase by mail or to the visitors at the time. One such coin set like this is exposed in the Bank of Canada Museum in Ottawa Do you think this is a real set or it is a made up one? The coins are: 1c - NSF 5c - NSF, far leaf, 3 WL 10c - NSF 25c - SF 50c - NSF, large date $1 - SF, FWL Are these coins proof like or plain business strike? Edited by tzetz13 11/30/2024 10:17 pm

We'll need a close up of the obverse of each coin to tell

Unfortunately I do not know how to take a nice pictures. I do plan to buy an older iPhone just for that as I have a lot of coins in needs of good pictures. This is what I can do at the moment - only for SF coins $1 - looks much better than the picture below 25 cents

Thank you.
I guess the others (NSF) are also circulation strikes. Too bad as I hoped they will be PL as the sets from 1954 and later.
But it is rare nonetheless.
Too bad there is not much info about these sets and I did not have it in hand when we visited the Bank of Canada museum a month or two ago.

These sets are not rare . This issue has been discussed at length in many previous posts . The set pictured shows circulation business strike pieces . The Ottawa Mint just pulled mint state pieces and carded them . Genuine PL and Specimen coins of 1953 are scarce .

There are sets out there with mixed PL and MS coins. You should post pictures of the cent and 5 cents. The cent could looks like it could be quite nice and if it is an SF it could be worth quite a bit regardless if PL or not.

The decimals all look nice....if you can, please post pics of the 5 Cent, 10 Cent & 25 Cent pieces.

The photo is not great, but it looks like it may be an SF cent to me. Looks nice bright red. If so this could be a $500+ coin.
