I'm thinking Machine Doubling. The letters looks reduced in size.

Note the doubling on all sides of the letters, that refers to Die Deterioration Doubling in
any of the reference material I have read.

I agree with Dearborn, I also think it is a MD and DDD combo.

Just MD. Lighting is causing the appearance of tripling and doubling on all sides.

This is a SMS coin. The dies for these coins weren't used long enough to deteriorate and form DDD.
