This is quite a landmark for me as during my trip to the Rue Vivienne in Paris last weekend I bought the final two holed Lindauer 25-centime coins I needed to complete my date set - 1916 and 1940:

The coins from 1914-1916 are made of pure nickel, those from 1917 to 1937 in cupro-nickel and those from 1938 to 1940 in copper-nickel-zinc. The line underneath the 'MES' of 'Centimes' distinguishes the nickel coins and the dots either side of the date the cu-ni-zn ones. There is a rare nickel 1917 coin but I won't worry about that yet. None were minted in 1934 or 1935.

That is a nice looking date set of coins. Congratulations on your milestone completion.

Were these made at various mints? If so, how many more examples are needed for a complete date & mint set?

Congrats! That's a really handsome set.

I appreciate the perseverance needed; when did you start that set? And which others are you working on?

Thanks for the comments! ,,

I think I got my first two or three of these given to me when I went to stay with a French family for a week when I was in my early teens. I mentioned I collected coins, and they brought out a tin of old French coins and gave me some. So it's taken me about 50 years to complete the set.

These coins are one of the easier French sets to finish as there are no mintmarks (all were made in Paris) and no blockers.

I'd like to complete a 5th Republic set of circulating coins but almost every denomination has at least one really rare date. Maybe the 50c, 1 and 2 francs from 1898-1920 would be a good series to try to complete next, as I already have most of them.
