Father collected Lincoln Memorial cents. He bought lots of rolls. They range in date from '59 through to the early oughts. I know enough to look out for some of the semi-keys, but I'm not sure what to do with mint state rolls of, say, '67, '74, '75, '85, etc. I feel guilty turning them into the bank, but I don't particularly want a hoard of this stuff lying around if it doesn't have much real value. I've opened a few rolls and am surprised at how bad most of the coins look. The luster is all there, but I see bag marks galore, unattractive toning, etc. The zincolns that I've opened all have the "carbon dots" or moisture droplet marks. I trust myself to grade circulated and low MS Lincolns. Once grades get higher than about 64, my discernment is terrible. Does anyone have any advice.

Sorry for your father's passing. In your situation I would simply return them to the bank for cash - but here are some possible options which might bring a better $ return: 1. Open them all, find the desired variety from the respective year/mint, protect them, photo them and sell on ebay with informed info on why the variety is valued. 2. Open them all, find the best coins, protect them, photo them and sell on ebay for what you can get. 3. Open nothing and simply offer the rolls as unsearched coin on ebay - see what you get but know that shipping cost will likely eat up most of your 'profits' from any roll sales. Me - I would open them all, search for anything in 1 or 2, then return all the rest to the bank.
Take a look at my other hobby ... https://www.jk-dk.artToo many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time.

Are they OBW or built/collector rolls?

It sounds like they were not stored in a good location that was low humidity.

Intriguing assortment. I'd go through them--me being me.

If I were you, the last thing I would do is turn them into the bank. They are a family heirloom. Maybe not keep all the rolls, but at least keep some as a memento to be passed down.
