I think this is a large letter variety, but unsure of the date. Leaning towards small date. Thank you.

Interesting that the position of the "8" relative to the shield point doesn't match the varieties that NGC shows for that date. The die crack running from talon to the A should be definitive too. Perhaps NGC doesn't have all the varieties for the year, or something else is going on there. I'm sure an expert will weigh in soon.

This is an 1842 Large Date and is a WB-13, WB-106.

The WB number, for Randy (W)iley - Bill (B)ugert, is derived from the 1993 book they had written, The Complete Guide to Liberty Seated half dollars.
