Looks like wear on the high points - so if that is the case you have an AU coin. And if your coin is AU then the Full Bands designation is off the table - " Mercury dimes must be in an MS-60 grade or greater in addition to having full bands." "An exception is made for the 1916-D Mercury dime and the 1942/1 and 1942/1-D overdates. the coin appears to be lightly circulated therefore FB is a moot point
AU58
if it is MS. i'd put in the MS62 box no FB however, I have seen worse that received the designation

I'll say with the light rub wear Obv. AU-58, very nice pictures as well.

1916 Philly is one of the higher mintage with many having decent strike for its first year run, and many having FB, so this one with the scratches on the jaw and cheek will grade a AU-53.

How many coins did you post in this topic - 2 at least, maybe 3.
If you posted more then one, please next time put each coin into its own topic for evaluation.
(I'm judging the multiple count on the nicks and dents the different coin have.)

The question came up about multiple coin pictures. All the pictures are of the same coin. I took pictures with different lighting. The low light pictures show derails of the coins high spots. The marks on the cheeks are not visible when it is obversed in hand. I know there are ways to hide imperfections but I wanted to give everyone the best pictures for evaluation.

I took pictures with different lighting this is a good lesson for new collectors when buying raw coins. photos are rarely 100% accurate especially if there is high amount of glare from lighting. it takes years of looking at graded coins to be able to see through that and get at least a good understanding of what the surfaces look like, even then, its nothing like having the coin in hand. you can hide all kind of flaws by light and angle. |
