I bought this coin in 2020 for about $250. I like this coin and am glad I bought it, but I didn't do my research adequately at the time. I didn't look up its history of being auctioned online--I did recently, for this very post, and found that the 2008 photos of it show it with significantly less toning. Since I've owned this coin its appearance hasn't changed noticeably, and I've literally just storied it in a PCGS box in a safe deposit box.

After you grade the coin, please be honest--do you like the toning on this one?

I go with MS-66FB
Since it's such a small coin, I would prefer to see/own them in blast white.
I'm sure it looks wonderful in hand thou.

There are "Glamor Shots" that TPG's and Auction Houses post - then there are "Real" pictures of the same coin that are posted - doesn't matter what year they are from.

the original toning on this one has begun to move from the purple to the last stage of black in some areas. I'm not into toned coins for several reasons but the TPG's sure like them.

quite a few ticks on the column but the rest of it is pretty clean. one of the issues with toned coins is seeing through that to see anything on the surfaces that could affect grade as well as it tends to hide remaining luster which is critical especially once you get to 66 or more. it doubles the difficulty when assessing them by photo.

i see it at a high MS65 and probably slabbed at MS66 for the toning.

I will go with 66 FB. You just can't compare the two sets of photos. The most recent one appears to be a PCGS TrueView and the earlier photo is all washed out. I would say chances are the coin looks like it did in 2008 if you could have seen it in hand then. I am curious how you were able to trace this coin to a 2008 auction as it appears in a post 2011 PCGS slab. Very nice coin and I like the toning.

Thanks for sharing your opinions on the toning. It's pretty, but I wouldn't mind trying to find a blast white one of similar quality.
