I was studying this very nicely toned 1882-cc in GSA and saw a big protrusion coming on top of the first "8" in the date. I took a look though the VAM list but couldn't find this one. Please let me know what one it is if it is a known VAM.

Firstly,

I am sorry but can tell little to nothing with these pics. Need clear, front on pics, not angled and clear full coin shots. A nice clear shot of the mm would be good along with clear shots of the neck area. I cannot tell from these pics if what you are referring to is damage to the coin, toning or an actual anomaly from the die it was struck from. Here is a link to help you get started with helping us help you.

Sorry about the poor quality photos, it was challenging to get good ones in the GSA case. Hopefully these are better. Please see above the first 8.

Thanks for the additional pics. You should put the anomaly above the 8 aside for a minute and look elsewhere. Check VAM-5 and see if you see the markers and doubling it shows. Based on the mm type/location I think this is the correct VAM. I think I can see the die chips below the 2 and second 8 and maybe the die gouge coming of the T in UNITED. See what you think.
