Hi All. This is the reverse of a 2001D LMC which has a different font. I have been searching through almost 300 coins of the same mint and year but have not found one with the same font. Is this a scarce variety? Thanks junjie

it actually looks like a well struck coin that may be why it looks different to you.

There are no known lettering size or shape differences on 2001 cents

I believe the significant difference are on the Letters E specially the lower arm, the cross bar of the letters A where in normal coins the bar is straight and much thicker. The differences are consistent throughout the legend.

Since all the 2001-D cents come from the same master hub they will all have the same font. Any variations seen will be the result of striking, the amount of wear on the die, changes due to polishing of the die, or filling of the dies by grease.

I believe you are looking really too close junjiesalvador for any error or variety that may or may not be listed.

I agree with you rockdude. I guess thats the only way we will discover new things by taking notes of the details. I"ll try getting better shots of the coin. Thanks fellows.

Here are pics showing the difference of font. Both coins are 2001D. There are no signs of Die Deterioration, grease or excessive polishing too.

hmm... I think I see something. It seems the top pic's letters have higher relief, eg they are raised a bit more. I think that's just because the die was new and maybe (maybe!) the machine had higher pressure.
**Wait! Wait! I see that the e's bottom leg in STATES, the line in the A in the characters all seem thinner...

Yes those are the significant differences. Also the lower tails of the S in STATES are thinner. The O F of OF are different too.

My opinion, the top coin is just in a mid to late die state and showing its wear and tear.

There's no difference, just different die states and strikes.
