Hello,
over on iOffer, people have all sorts of "BU" Morgan dollars. I am pretty sure they are counterfeit. How much is a good price for one of these? They are selling for about 20USD.

Why in the world would you buy a counterfeit Morgan dollar for 20 bucks when you can buy a real one for less than that.

And if these are non-marked chinese counterfiets I would strongly suggest you to not buy one. Chinese counterfeits are causing a lot of stress to the coin collecting community and perpetuating a demand in the counterfeiting market is the last thing we need.

Yeah... real ones go for around 14-16.

And don't buy fake ones. That'll just feed the counterfeiters.

So, if I buy coins on ebay that say "copy" on them, is that bad?
I want to fill some holes in my collection, but can't afford them. 1916D mercury, VDB-1909-s cent, etc

No, not at all bad. But that's not what you asked about. You asked this:

If it said "copy" on it, you wouldn't be "pretty sure" it was a counterfeit.

I was speaking of different coin that did not say copy on them. I just thought started a new thread would be a waste for a related question.

Ah. Gotcha. Copy-stamped coins are not considered a bad thing in numismatics - more than a few collectors use them for precisely the reason you wish to.

Seriously, wouldn't it be great if these dang counterfeiters did stamp "copy" on all of their coins? Then the would be looked at as doing a service for collectors instead of the problem they are. Ahh, to dream...

I'll ask the obvious.....what makes you think they're counterfeit? Is there something "off" about them, or do you think they're fake because of the price?

There is plenty of room in this hobby for all of us, so what ever you want to do is fine with me, provided you (or anyone else) does not attempt to push these coins off as anything but fake.

However, personally, I rather have several empty holes in my book than to put even one fake into it. It doesn't seem right to me, and I know, everytime I looked at it, I would know it was fake. It would truly diminish the coin collecting experience for me.

I would hope no one buys any fake coin, and Maybe, just Maybe, the counterfeiters would not have any buyers and would go out of business.

Ahhhh, to dream...
