I managed to spend $7 in Samoa-D Quarters in downtown Denver today.

The bookstore clerk noticed that they were Samoa Quarters. Then again,
he was counting them, because most people who buy a $4 magazine
($4.23 with tax) don't pay with 17 Quarters...

I also put three Samoa-P's into circulation.

The 'killer': Before I spent any Quarters, I had to spend two
Polk Dollars first. The first Polk Dollars that I've ever spent...

...went into the parking meter!

Well, since I firmly believe that the very 'cornerstone' of this great
hobby/pastime is 'finding collectible coins from circulation',
that means that I should make an effort to put at least some
2009 coins into circulation.

I've had a lot of incredible finds over the years from circulation,
and I would hope that I'm giving some other people the joy of
discovering a 'find' from circulation (a feeling you can't get from
simply buying a coin!).

One 'fly in this ointment' is that the Samoa Quarters are so scarce,
the cashiers are starting to notice them. I spent two rolls of
Guam-D's with no one (apparently) noticing, but the Samoa's are
getting some reactions. If the cashier hoards them, they won't go
into circulation.

EDIT: I remember the one kid asking if my Guam Quarter was a
'misprint', because (as he put it) 'Guam isn't a State'!

Am I the only one on this forum who thinks that something's amiss
when cashiers who handle large volumes of coins daily, don't even
know that Territorial Quarters exist, unless by sheer
'struck-by-lightning' type odds they get that rare 'customer' who
will actually spend a few of them?!

Thanks, yotie!

At this rate I'll be watching the cashiers beat each other up
for the National Park Quarters...

Future coin website article:
"PCGS AU-50 Samoa-D fetches $5000 at Heritage"

A spectacular PCGS AU-50 American Samoa-D Quarter fetched $5000 at a Heritage auction today.
A true conditional rarity, only 80 circulated AU-XF Samoa-D Quarters are known to exist.
They were all spent in 2009 by one coin collector, known only by the nickname 'DNA'.

The other 39,599,920 American Samoa-D Quarters are all still in
MS-60 or higher grades.

Can you spend some here in Pa.
I need at least 1 D to put in my album. (the rest can go back into circulation)
The P should come easy...maybe I should head to the mint.

mrwisker, PM sent!

I wish I could spend $100 of Territory D's in your
neck of the woods, that would be awesome!

I did spend three Samoa-P's last Saturday, and even a number
of the coin shops in Denver don't have those yet!

EDIT: Click here for the 2009 Territory mintages, wheezy!

Nice thing though is that you can always make an MS into an AU by sticking it in your pocket for a few weeks.

I don't know how to make an AU into an MS though...oh, wait - yes I do - ebay!
