If that coin is a proof, it is a one of a kind super rarity as they didn't have proof buffalos in 1938, or any proofs in Denver for that matter. I say a nice MS-64 to 65.

This is a 1938 D so I don't think it is a proof but it has some great strike detail.
I would guess it easily makes MS65. If that isn't a slight contact mark under the Buffalo beard and a couple more tiny nicks on the buffalo shoulder and below, I too would say MS66. That's a dandy!

Very nice Buffalo. Usually don't see them in that good of condition.

I'm by no means a grading person, but I would have to agree with the others. MS-65 possibly MS-66.

Again, very nice.

Does anyone think this would be a good candidate for getting slabbed?

You could slab it, but it's not worth that much even at MS66.
I know, I have one in a slab lol.

I'd give it a 65. Nice coin at any rate.

Get a glass on the mint mark to see if it might be D/D or D/S.

If it is slabbed as a MS-66 it would be worth around $60.00-$65.00
If it was graded MS-65 around $45-$50. If it was graded MS-64 around $25-$30... judge for yourself. IF it ends up being a MS-64 you would spend the value of the coin on the grading service fee.
