Poll Question
Just curious how I fall into the mix. I am searching for a new desk and just can't seem to find any wooden roll top styles that fit right. My wife insists it is normal for desks to be built this way. I say they are built for non-computer applications, but among newly built desks I am sure it is not uncommon for them to add a spot for a computer. Are old style oak desks now totally obsolete among modern desk shoppers? They dont build them for computers? No way!.

I know I can't be the only oddball out there that wants to put my computer in my oak desk.

So I thought to ask the forum.....

You are right, my apology if I as unclear. I should have been more specific.

We are on an online message board so it is a given we all use our computers online. Some of us use computers as part of our hobby more than others. For those of use that focus on die varieties and extreme close up comparisons we like larger monitors. Some of us use more than one at a time so we can spread out a series of pictures or varieties for easier comparison.

Some configurations get quite odd and extravagant so they are uncommon and rather outside what would be considered the normal scope of most hobbyists. I am not as much concerned with those users.

I am shopping for a new desk. It will be my designated coin desk. Most of us have one that are active in the hobby.

I was completely shocked that I can't seem to find one that will accommodate my monitor so I am just trying to see if I am perhaps looking for something that does not exist.

This cant be that odd of a question. I just did not find any other info when looking through the site so thought to toss out a quick poll and see directly.

My coin desk is also my everything desk. It is an oak roll-top desk that my grandfather used from the 1920s to the 1960s. It was designed with handwritten papers in mind; not even a standard typewriter fits inside. There was no way I could stuff a standard computer inside it, or place it on top, or get a normal monitor out of the way of the roll-top mechanism.

So I got a laptop computer instead. It saves space, the screen folds flat, the desk top rolls down and the computer and coin-related clutter disappears.

I've always said that the optimal desk for me would be a complete circle so that I could sit in the middle and have stuff all around. I do use a laptop for the small footprint and portability.
