Poll Question
I've always wondered how do most coin collectors, regardless of what type / grade / denomination / country they collect house their coins. Do they have 'em third party graded (slabbed) or are they kept in 2 x 2's (raw)? Please let me know how you store your coins and if you can spare a brief moment, tell me why you chose this method of storage?

Transition from raw to slabbed. I am moving to a 7070 type set and I am trying to get the best examples (better dates & condition) that I can afford, and selling off most of my raw coins.

success,

The ole "buy the coin, not the slab" theory ........
ALL of "my" proofs are DCam 70's in "my" opinion !......

I would do it for authentication purposes and exact grades on higher value/more "Classic" coins however. I just haven't as of yet. My collection is mostly raw.

I have yet to buy a slabbed coin. If I ever do, it will be freed and placed into a Dansco album. The only reason I would buy a slabbed coin is if I cannot find it raw. That is just my opinion!

Raw.

Slabs have made relatively few inroads into this country, and I'm doing my best to help keep Australia a slab-free-zone.

Me, I collect raw. However, I don't always buy to collect....sometimes I buy to flip at a profit so I can continue to collect.

In that case, I prefer slabbed stuff to stay slabbed; it's very rare that I believe I can crack a coin and make more money that way. My pics are too darn accurate.

No slabs, just raw coins in my collection.

I think for some high-value keys, slabbed is probably the safest bet, but I by far buy raw coins.
Since I collect mostly die varieties, it's pretty difficult to inspect/photograph coins in slabs.
Then there's the added nuisance of storing coins encased in big chunks of plastic.

I've got about 80% raw and 20% slabbed. I prefer high dollar (over $100) coins to be slabbed unless they're bullion coins.

Probably 95+% of my collection is raw. I just feel like paying someone else to grade coins, which is subjective anyway, seems like a waste of money. How many times have you read about someone getting a slabbed coin re-graded and it comes back a point higher at the same grading agency? Grading is subjective even if you pay someone big bucks to grade it for you. That being said, I do have a few graded coins that are prone to being counterfeited, or just weren't available raw.

I don't own any slabbed coins. However, if I was going to buy a large $ coin, I would be far more comfortable if it was slabbed to ensure it is a legitimate item.

Since I collect Icelandic Pre 1940 coins in the highest grade that I can find or can be possibly found because of their low mintage and
its sometime impossible to find in high grade unc,I have them graded by NGC to verify that the coin has not been tampered with in any way and to preserve them in the best possible way. Who knows they maybe the nicest ones around.

I would say 99.9% of my collection is raw. The reason for it is that most are just common circulated coins.

Almost all of mine are raw. I have never submitted a coin, although I think that would be fun. I have a few slab sets going, why, I dunno! :)

When I buy keys, they will be slabbed so I can sleep better at night.

I buy more expensive coins in slabs for authentication, but none of them are in slabs now. They were freed to be placed in Dansco albums.

My collection is raw. I simply haven't acquired any coins in great enough condition or rarity to go for slabbed...
