I'll be in Denver on the 9th (yep, doing the Mint tour), then on to Grand Junction, CO the 10th thru the 13th.

Anyone know of any coin shops along I-70?

Yes, two shops in Denver both worthy of a visit if you have the time. A complete 180 difference in feel in each of the Shops. All depends on your tastes for which one you might enjoy more.

Rocky Mountain Coin on Broadway -more modern facility, most everything slabbed and sanitary. Smaller shop but space is used well for displays. More akin to a dry environment for brokering and trading preset values. Good prices but no negotiation beyond what is marked. Odds are the person helping you wont even be able to recognize the coin but it should be priced pretty fair. Seems to lack the old chew the fat style of purchasing, but great for an in-and-out shopper.

L&L Coin on 44th Ave Old school shop, coffee maker with horrible coffee squeaky stools and the entire place smells like an antique book. Fairly large shop with a great selection. US and world coins. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff. Prices are good and negotiation is dealt with a coin by coin basis. Obviously no rude low-balling, but good conversation and the feel of what a good old fashioned shop should have. Cant remember if there was a shop dog/cat but it just seems like I could swear there was a cat.

How far along 70 will you be traveling? I just did a cross country trip completely across I can name about 50 more shops depending on the state or highway. Somewhat of a Coin shop critic now...

I'm taking I-64 thru Kentucky, Indiana & Illinois. Then take I-70 in St.Louis, MO all the way to Grand Junction.
Rest in Peace

I was born in Grand Junction, and there was a tremendous coin shop there -- International Coin. Unfortunately, it recently went out of business.

The only other coin shop I know of in the Grand Valley is a shop in Palisade, located on Iowa Avenue.

Mesa County definitely needs a new and large coin shop. Maybe when the economy improves someone will open one.

I live in Delta, which is 40 miles from Grand Junction. I am in search of a good shop. Haven't visited the one in Palisade. Please report back if you find a worthwhile shop in Mesa County.

Excellent, you are driving through Kansas.

In Lawrence there is a small shop that has some very nice inventory. All depends on your budget but it does have some very nice goodies.

I dont know if you collect paper but they have a quite knowledgable owner team of man and wife that has some impressive notes. Very easy going and open to share and show anything you like. Several notes are in the "under 5 known examples" catigory.

Thanks for the info guys.

This will make our trip to Rock Jam complete.

I'm gonna take a bunch of P mint rolls of Lincolns and Prez dollars and spend them along the way to get them circulating out west.
Who knows, someone may want to trade some stuff.
