Hi guys.. I frequently travel to the UK. Last time I was there, which was the beginning of this month , I could not see any 2009 50p, 1 and 2 Pounds coins in circulation. Also, so far I have only seen two 2008 50p's in circulation as well, nd back in 2006-2007, the abundance of circulationg commemoritive 50p coins has almost disappeared entirely from the circulation this year. What about 2008 commemoritive 2 pound coins? has anyone seen any in circulation. It seems like in 2008 and 2009, Royal Mint didn't release the coins it struck yet. What are your observations about it? |

I'm finding a few new releases whenever I go to East London, but they all look as if they've been hit by something. Condiyion so far has been terrible, scratches; not just bag marks, eks and general bad condition. Can't explain why that should be, but it's the only place so far that I've found new coin; and very little worth collecting.

I moved back to the UK in June, though I spent a month a half out, I have seen two 50ps, perhaps one or two £1, none of the commemoratives since 2007 I think.
It is quite hard over here to get circulating coins if you don't have people looking for you who use cash the whole time!!
1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20ps are all over the place though, but none of them there dateless 20ps! boo!

I'm working part time in a department store until christmas and so see a lot of change. Plenty of 1 -20p's and £1 pieces, definately less 50p's around. And not a single commemorative yet, does seem odd they haven't appear to have been released.

Jeff11, I believe so too, 50p circulating commemoritives seem to be disappeared from geenral circulation too soon. back in early 2008, most circulating comm. 50p'sd are availible in good conditions in teh general circulation. I pulled almost all my comm's from circulation when I stayed in London in 01.2008. There even used to be found comm's from 1998 & 2000 as well, freely in circulation. Now almost all seem to be disappeared from circulation. I sort of think they won't be a rarity in the near future since some people seem to stock them in higher quantities somewhere, taking advantage of the decreasing purchase power of the Great British Pound.

I look thru several bags of all types each month.
Still have not found the following:
2009 Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew 50 pence
2008 Olympics Centenary £2
2008 Olympic Handover £2
2009 Charles Darwin £2
2009 Regular £2
2008 Old Design - £1, 20 pence, and 2 pence
2009 Royal Shield - 2 pence, 5 pence, 20 pence, 50 pence, and £1
So I have no idea of what has actually been released to circulation.

Kena, I have the 2008 1 pound, old 20p and old 2 pence already.. found them in London in circulation.
For 2009, I have the 20p only..
They are rare, though, I found them in changes from big supermarkers such as M
&S and tesco. Seems like, old design 2008 1 pound will be a sort of rarity soon.

Kena, haven't been to the UK after november. All I got at november was one 2008 shield design 50p, several 2009 5,10 and 20p and a bUNC 1 pound 2008 old design. That's it. Will be there by the end of the february 2010, I wish this time the lazy Royal Mint got some new coins out in the circulation. |

One my kids picked up a 2009 Royal Shield 5 pence and 20 pence for me in change.
They also somehow found a 1971 and 1976 half penny.
I also wish more the new stuff would be released.

My mum managed to pick most of the 2009 coins out of circulation for me. She lives in Eastbourne and comes over to the U.S. to visit a couple of times each year.

Perhaps as late as 2012!.. I haven't still seen the bigger coins of 2009 like 50p and 1,2 Pounds. Hope to find many lovely coins in circulation when I'll be there in 02/2010.!.. BTW, Why do you think circulating commemoritives (50p's) have disappeared this fast from the circulation?.
