I am not convinced that the 2009 commemorative 50 pences circulated at all. No one that I know has seen the Kew Gardens or kid designed Olympic 50 pence pieces unless they ordered one form The Royal Mint. I am finding older commemorative 50 pence pieces in circulation (recently offered two up for trade on here). Ken

Molydeii, maybe, and it's just a guess; the publicity in the English press earlier this year concerning the 20p mule has made people more aware of the potential short term profits for some coins. MUTLU YILLAR (I hope that's correct)

Commemoratives don't usually appear until the year after for some reason. I think I used to find coins around xmas time onwards. Saying that I managed to get myself a £2 commemorative from 2007! That is how hard I am finding it, living abroad doesn't help, and those people that used to help me no longer bother and I don't work with money any more.

Was that the regular 50 pence or the one for 50th Anniversary of first sub-four-minute mile, Roger Bannister, 6 May 1954?

I am hoping to get to the bank during the week to obtain UK coins to look thru since I am working on finding current UK coins for myself as well as some forum members from the US.
augsburger, you don't have any contact information listed. I might be able to help you out later on in 2010. Send me a private message, if interested.

I have found several Bannister 50 pence coins in circulation.
In fact, I just recently offered one of them and the Samuel Johnson's first English Dictionary up for trade in the forums which were snapped up rather quickly.
How do you search for coins? I do obtain bags of coins from the bank to look thru them.

Alganbegarep, MUTLU YILLAR to all of us! MUTLU YILLAR HEPIMIZE! yes that is correct, it suprised me to see my native language posed on the forum :) thanks for that :)) About 2004 Bannisters, I've found several of them in my pocket change when I was in London. Probably I didn't do the right thing but I saved the best, and spent the rest of them, same with the dictionary 2005 and other 2006 and 2007 Comm 50p's. In 2008, I think they were more abundant, specially in London (Forexample, up in north like Carlisle and Scotland at 2009, I didn't come cross almost one comm 50p or other intresting coins in circulation). I seldom come across forged 1 Pounds as well. Haven't seen any other forged UK circulating coinage. Perhaps this time, like Kena does, I'll go to a post office or a bank and ask for a bag of 50p's. It'll be fun going through them and spend the rest that I don't need. However, my days are mostly limited in the UK and don't find time for everything I like doing. From my experiences, London is the best city so far to find nicely less-circulated, high condition coins. I haven't seen Wales though, I know Uk mint operates somewhere in Wales, maybe it is a better destination for "coin hunting". I think Royal Mint has been lazy in later part of 2008 and whole 2009. Maybe they mint them but don't release new coins to the circulation, they just stock them up around. I hope to find newer coins for my colelction once I am there. And finally, Sainsbury's is my favourite sueprmarket. Anyone living in London here? there is this Local Sainsbury's in Marble Arch, don't know why but I just love that place :)) Gotten many of my circulating comm 50p's as change from that store. :)

I'm up in the north, and yes we don't get much. I think there was more in Swansea in Wales when I was there, but probably more due to the number of people who come to and from London, rather than it being near the mint. I'm not sure really.

Molydeii, if you are coming to London, message me. I'll save whatever new coin I can find.
