While in Ireland, a friendly tour bus driver presented me with a set of Euros. When he gave me the 1 Euro, he laughed and asked if I really wanted it. I said sure. It was Irish, 2005, and BU. Of course he wasn't looking at it from a coin collector's point of view. He explained, "We see them on the ground all the time. Usually we don't even bother to reach down and pick them up." Sounds a lot like our Lincoln Cent! Edited by Gary Burke 05/24/2006 12:14 am

You beat me to it, gx. The one Euro coin is bimetal and worth $1.28 US. The 1 Euro cent is brown and worth, well, a cent.
I'd bend down and pick up as $1.28 all day long.

When I was a young adult, I refused to pick up a penny on the ground, because I was afraid of what other people would think.
Nowadays, I don't worry so much about ego. I pick up the penny.

Sorry, I meant to write 1 cent. The coin is actually smaller than our Lincoln Cent. Don't know why I wrote 1 Euro. Obviously, I would be scrambling to pick up 1 Euro coins. Again, sorry, guess I didn't have my mind in gear.

There are several countries trying to abolish the one and Two Centpiece ( higher prices and less fuss ) When somebody has to give me back in change one cent I patiently wait to get it back because I know if the next purchase ends on 21 cent they will want their 20 cent plus one cent

josie,
What a beautiful country you live in!
Many of the coins I brought back from Europe last week were Irish Euros.
