I really do not believe this was a strike through. Just a very weak strike.

Dave, putting apparent luster (or reflection) aside on the reverse, the obverse image is a little too fuzzy to make a good determination of its possible wear, especially on the breast feathers.
Rick, when you receive the Morgan, give us an eyeball opinion.

Solid points, Fred. I think we should have Susan publish a caveat at the top of each subforum page: COINS GRADED FROM PHOTOGRAPHS ARE ESTIMATES ONLY. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY.

Hi Fred
I will be sure and post to this coin after I receive it, depending on what it looks like I may send it to anacs for slabbing it will be my first submission ever if I do .
At any rate it fits nicely with my collection of O mint Morgans.

Hi Fred I have this coin in hand . To my less than trained eye for Morgan dollars, This coin appears UNC, there is luster present on all of the weak areas, the surrounding detail is sharp and crisp, the rim even has a sharpness that is indicative of an UNC coin. Its a great addition to my O mint Morgans and I cant thank jd enough !!! Rick

OK, you've convinced me. "Methinks he doth protest too much." (with apologies to Shakespeare and Hamlet for the misquote). Now I gotta see it for myself. Give ya a hundred bucks for it, shipping not included. Or do you want me to come over and pick it up? If nothing else, it would look great in my Morgan curio collection because it's so unusual. Fred

Why is this a "Morgan" dollar? Excuse ignorance - just know about Aussie coins(sorta); and then only pre-decimal. That's why curious how Morgan dollar so named. To make matters even worse(?), once owned exact same 1888 coin as shown, but alas stolen along with wallet where was kept for "good luck" years ago .. So much for good luck! Anyhow, sure is handsome looking and easy see why is favourite collector coin. Cheers

George T. Morgan was the designer of this beauty. The initial M is found at the neck, and on the left hand loop of the ribbon on the reverse.
