Looks very close to mint state, with only a touch of rub visible on the obverse maple leaves and cotton bolls. I really don't see any wear on the reverse.
I'd say it's strong for AU-55 and possible for AU-58, with original surfaces. Pretty nice!

I also want you to know this is a 7/8 TF not a 7tf. If you look you will probably see some extra tail feathers under the 3 and 4 tail feathers. If I had to take a guess I would say this is a VAM-33 from what I can tell from the pictures

I would say VAM 33A with that neck clash. The 33, 39 and 44 have that "basket" lump hanging below the olive branch and show a "weak" 7/8TF. Whenever I see that lump I double-check the obverse for any doubling around the cotton bolls and leaves ... someday I may get lucky!  Also note the nice doubling of the Eagle's legs. |

sweetness... Definitely AU 58 may be a bit higher! As the coin been lightly cleaned? Just appears that there are some light signs of directional scratches, definitely a beautiful coin!  |

you guys are very good!! it is a 7/8 tail feather, and also VAM 33A, as to cleaning I'm not sure, the picture does show a light abrasion around the face I hadn't noticed until taking the pic under magnification... light toning .. |

AU 55 cleaned. I suggest you put the coin under a black light. You can really see the hairlines then. please tell us what you see.

WOW Oz, I really like that black light idea. I would have never thought of such a thing, but I could very well see how that could really shed some different light on things. KUDOs !

Hi T......I'm like the Nut there, lots my black light in the 70's, maybe I will have to see if I can find one somewhere...What does the black light show up?

It will show fine hair lines in the 'fro' in a good quality black velvet tapestry of Jimi Hendrix and the piercing eyes of Jim Morrison.

It will show (high-lite) hairlines. It is how graders find coins with altered surfaces. If someone wiped a coin, it will show up.
It won't help with cleaned coins. By that, those that have been over dipped.

A friend of mine just told me that she bought a couple of them (black lights) at Wal-mart. She didn't recall the price. Sounds like a good investment no matter what the price is: Sock it to me, Right on, Solid, Groovy man. |
