do they have any value? I wouldn't think so, but I see them selling for much more than a couple nickels each.

Culls (damaged) sell for about 8 cents each. Non-damaged but dateless nickels sell for anywhere between 12 and 20 cents each. What do people do with dateless nickels? Some restore the dates (I'm one of those), some like to put them into slot machines that they own (it adds a touch of realism...especially if it's a machine from the old days) and some metal-detecting clubs will actually scatter them in fields, woods or on a beach and hold contests to see who can discover the most. Of course, there are also people who just horde old coins for the sake of hording them...even if they don't have dates.

Not an easy answer. From a numismatic point of view, you have to decide whether a "restored" date buffalo is for you.

So at a personal level, I think they are worth 5 cents because I would never put a restored date buffalo in my collection.

There are people who buy "copies" of rare coins from China so they can put them in their albums. I would never do that either.

Personal preference.

If you want to get the most out of a dateless buffalo just drop it somewhere near your local school or in the kids section of your local library. The kids who find them think they've really got something interesting and you might just have created another collector. Works with old foreign coins, etc. also.

Find a better use for the things and I'd like to hear about it.
