Questionable Mint Case - Coin Community Forum

P0larray New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 01/02/2011 6:52 pm Hello CCF My mother has had this case for years from someone who had worked at UPS. I have no clue what it is, although I'm sure it's not an official mint case. The coins that are in it are all dated 1967, a penny, dime, nickel, quarter and half-dollar. I have no clue what to do with it, or what it is. I'm thinking it's a generic case from a shop. Should I keep it or not? Please help. (I know the picture is small and blurry, but it gives the general idea of what the case looks like.) Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

pyrbob Rest in Peace United States 1943 Posts	Posted 01/02/2011 7:11 pm Welcome to the forum! You are right, this is a generic case you can buy and put coins in. The value of the set comes from the coins in the case. I have seen these in the past with worn coins from circulation in them. I can't tell for sure from your photo but the cent looks brown so I assume it is not uncirculated. At the very least the 1967 half dollar is 40% silver and has some value. Probably not worth a real lot in case you planned on selling it but as a start for a hobby in coin collecting, it is something that someday you'll say this started it all. Is 1967 an important year date from your mothers life? a child born, married, or some other important event for the year 1967? many times people put together a set of coins to commemorate events in a certian year.
