Hey!

I've been reading this forum for a month or so now...lots of interesting topics and info.

Now, a question of my own...

I recently purchased a 1987 Silver Eagle off ebay (my birthyear). Unfortunately, it didn't come with much in terms of protection... is there a good place where I can purchase just an airtight case of some sort to transfer it to? I found a couple of ppl selling old eagle cases for 6$ or so... anywhere I can find them cheaper?

Thanks

If all your looking for is a holder for a single coin then a coin store would probably be your best bet. Ask what they've got for your eagle and hopefully they'll have something you like.

The S&H would probably make it too expensive for just one item but if you want to order a few things together here are a couple of places that have good holders for your coin and even some display options if your interested in going that route.

I dunno but $6 sounds awfully high for one used case. Unless it's one heckuva nice case I'd pass. You should be able to pick up an air tite for around a buck at a dealer. I think they run, like, half a dollar at the places I listed above but then again your gonna have the S&H to pay.

Anyhoo, hope you find what your looking for and welcome to the forum.

Here is an eagle in an Airtite. Be sure to order the right rings with it. This one has a black ring, but they come in several colors.

I also got mine from JPscorner. Good folks.

Air Tites are the way to go.

That's how I house those of mine which aren't in an album.

I pay 95 cents each for them at my coin shop.

Yup, air-tites are really the best, they stopped the...err...toning that was forming on my eagle. Just head on down to your local coin shop and pick up however many you need.

And Welcome!

No doubt about it, Airtite is the best, I've tried several others which aren't even worth mentioning. The Airtite looks terrific holding the uncirculated ASE in a complete set of silver eagles, since the usmint capsule for the proof ASE is very similar in appearance. I use an Eagle (brand name) album to display my set, it is spectacular IMHO since the capsules and Airtites fit so nicely into the pages.

Thank you MM and Irishraider for your generous offers. The ebay listings were for complete velvet cases and a COA at times (which is kind of disturbing in a way...) from other eagles, which would explain their price. Thanks for all the input... glad I didn't buy one of those cases.

Your airtite went in the mail today. Also, There are 2 different eagles, proofs and bullion uncirculated. The ones you saw with Cases and a COA are Proofs. The one in the airtite I posted is a bullion coin. That could explain the price difference in the prices you were asking about in the first post.
