I have a decision to make that I'd like some help with. I have some American Eagles that were graded MS70 by some TPG companies and I am considering removing them from the slabs and placing them in airtites.

First, let me say that I am not collecting primarily to make a profit on reselling these coins. I hope to keep them and maybe pass them on to my children. So, the higher value they may bring as being "slabbed" is not high on my priority list.

I purchased these before I became a little more knowledgeable so don't be too harsh with me!

I have two from SGS and one from HCGS. I also have two from INB and three from NTC. Should I remove any or all of these from the slabs and move to airtites? The slabs do offer protection, although with the ones from SGS and HCGS, I can't keep the little gold end labels stuck down.

Thanks in advance,
Tim

Hi Tim

My opinion is based on two things,, my preference of collecting raw coins, and the fact that the grades on those slabs mean little or nothing in the market place, since they are known to be gradeflated by the companies that you mentioned.

If they were mine they would be cracked out in a heart beat !!

I must agree with Metalman - crack those puppies out

The slabs you have are not likely to add anything to the value, IMHO.

I would definitely crack them out and put them in Airtites. The slabs are worthless and Airtites provide very, very good protection for your coins.

Crack them out- the slabs are worthless not only in market value but also in the protection they offer your coins. Air-tites are a great investment, pennies on the dollar in my opinion.

Get them out of those slabs! Even if value or investment were an issue, the companies listed do not enhance and may even detract. Secure them in airtites and pass them on when the time comes. Enjoy!

One other thing.....Don't buy any more in slabs!!! You can get the same high quality by cherry picking at your local dealer for a lot less money!!! I prefer RAW coins and don't see that changing in this lifetime!

Congrats on making the move and cracking those probably overgraded babies out of their little prisons...The ASE is such a beautiful coin, IMHO the airtite is the best, cleanest way to protect and display them. Speaking of displaying them, I have found the Eagle brand pages have the best pockets for holding the airtites and for that matter the usmint capsules the proofs come in. There may be others, but if so I haven't seen them.
