I found this in a customers jar of change.
Just want to know if this was done after striking, how do you get the copper off without destroying the Zinc under it.
This one has an interesting line in the field above liberty.
It is not a scratch it rises up off the surface.
The rim is plated in areas but not all the way around, and I do not see where it could have been ground down (No scratches from a grinder or sand paper).

Has anyone heard if these kind of things come from the Mint, or have they been done after minting?

The raised bumps and lines would indicate that the copper plating was chemically stripped from the surface of this coin.
Error coin writer and researcher.

I was told that the plating can be removed by pounding the cent between layers of leather. I had one that I thought was something special but was told it was PMD. I sold mine on ebay for about $8, but was totally honest in the listing about what I had been told.
Rest in Peace

If you remove the Copper chemically how does it put zinc above the existing surface?
If you pound on the coin between leather does it not damage the detail, and how would it put metal above the surface (and in such a straight line)?
How could you possibly do this with a light bulb?
There is partial copper plating on the rim, if done chemically would this not go away also?
And last but not least, Who would do this and why?

I will not sell this on ebay just wanted to find out how and why.
