Sometimes I feel that way as well, but we do all have schedules to look after, and sometimes people who look at the post just want to see if anyone else has posted so they can learn, but they cannot post because they know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the coin itself. I would suggest, if you don't already have it, getting a Red Book at your local coin store or bookstore. They are relatively cheap (what is it, $16.95 nowadays?), and have prices for almost every US coin, even the errors. They are a good manual for when nobody is around to help out. Try not to get too impatient :) Andrew

I will give you some reasons you don't have an answer.
1. If you want people's opinions, they have to be able to form an opinion from the picture. I can't tell anything from your recent picture.
2. You have to give some time, no one here gets paid, we're all volunteers. We don't have a 24 hour paid staff. The posts is are just from today ands it's now almost 1:00AM in the morning.
3. People get tired of seeing the same exact post in multiple forums and will tend to avoid your posts. (Which you still continued to do after being warned twice, I had to lock 3 topics of yours.)
4. Posts like this will certainly not make people flock to your threads.
Now you have your reasons. If you would like me to delete this topic let me know.

ldarrell, I'll add to Bobby's post with as much tact as I can muster. First, chat-room style grammar and abbreviations in your topic subject turn people off: I had no idea what "plp" meant and didn't learn about it until I opened your post. All lower-case letters, no punctuation, no separation between sentences (run on sentences), use of first person ("you") present active tense (I did not "post a coin on here"), jive-type grammar, and unbalanced verbs all give me the impression you dashed this post off to build up your posting count rather than really cared what others think. In other words, your post is not understandable. This is not a chat room where one puts as much information into as short a post in as fast a period of time as possible. This is a forum where persons post well-defined and thought-out information in an logical and clear manner. Many of us are older, very experienced, and well-educated and simply do not respond to what appears to be an illiterate message.
I am certain you have some very valid questions and can probably contribute very much to the collective knowledge on error coins while learning at the same time. All you have to do is present your posts in a legible and cogent manner and you will find the responses rolling in.

ldarrel, I too thought that at first, I was so excited that there was a place to post coins for feedback, and to learn, but I am also learning that not all the people here know about the coins you post, and therefore they can not post a comment. I post alot of coins, but that is because I have a horde of them, not knowing this site was here, so now I am overwehlming with my coins. I will have to curb my post, and hold them for later. Patience I am learning, is the key.

Many times images are insufficient to give an educated opinion of what the problem is with the coin posted. Many other times these are continuous examples of the same effect - Machine Doubling. That hardly warrants explaining what Machine Doubling is with every coin posted. The effect is the same throughout coins, so an explanation would be very redundant.

The one bad thing about forum education is that the information obtained might be faulty in itself for you are not to sure of the persons qualifications that is giving it. I know Chuck Daughtrey, he is an expert not only on variety and error dies, but also the die process itself. I consider myself an expert in the field of varieties concerning wavy steps and trails for I have conducted written analyses and studies on this type die and have the largest known collection with associated files of wavy steps. Having said that, I do recognize other names who frequent this forum, but I can not be sure of their expertise in a given field, so I do question their comments until I know that they are true. The best education comes from reading books from the likes of John Wexler, James Wiles, Chuck Daughtrey, Ken Potter, Allen Herbert, Roger Burdette, Mike Diamond and many other accredited authors and experts who have detailed knowledge of just what is going on with coins. So, the best and first thing to do is build a reference library, something that you can go to to confirm what you are seeing on a particular coin. Next,as Chuck Daughtrey mentioned in the above comment, a picture some times does not tell the full story, for it lacks depth perception and thus faulty conclusions can be derived from the viewing. If you view the 1964-D Lincoln Cent, DDR that I have posted, you will see what I mean. The pictures do not due this coin justice for they fail to show the clarity of the notching, the offset of the doubling and the overall complexity of the doubled die. Also, I spent a better part of a day researching this coin, trying to figure what class of doubled die it was, seeing if any other files (CONECA, WEXLER, CRAWFORD, CHERRY PICKER'S) referenced this exact die and only after finding some of the answers, did I post it on two forum chat rooms (this one and coppercoins) for mostly educational purposes to see if I could obtain more knoweldge concerning this die. So next in line is to gain experience at what you are looking at by using you reference library. If then you can not find an answer that satisfies what you are seeing, use the forum and ask others what their opinions are. And if you do not get any responses dont be discouraged for it may be something that is rarely seen or the knoweldge is just not there. I hope that this helps. On a whole, the numismatic community helps each other and this forum, like others, does just that and that is the way it should be. BJ Neff

Having heard all that ,,I would like to add just a few thoughts,, I utilize many of the same references that wavysteps mentioned these references are here for other members to use via questions asked, and in that the forum works very well for its intended purpose,,
many times coins are posted here that may take a day or 2 with limited time by some of the members to research ,so that an articulate answer can be given and take out as much guess work as possible, but at any rate even the best cannot always tell what truely up on some coins from pictures,, but an educated guess will get you going in the right direction.
Just be patient when you ask a question,, and be as clear and prescise as possible ,,belive me were all beginners sometimes.
