Can anyone offer any information or sources for interesting or rare uses for coins? Have you ever heard of coins being used in a very creative or quirky way? For example, She has gathered some information on a man who actually made a jacket out of coins. She know this may seem a bit strange; but, she imagine avid coin collectors are probably the best source. Looking forward to any interesting insight you might be able to provide! Thanks! nybird Valued Member United States 459 Posts	Posted 04/15/2011 09:45 am I met a coin dealer in NJ who has a type set of coins with holes in them, He showed me his favorites one of which had I think, four holes in it. He told me that during the civil war some troops would drill holes in large cents and sew them inside their jackets in strategic locations as a sort of bullet proof vest concept. If that is true, I think that qualifies as an unusual but practical use of coins. He almost convinced me to start collecting holed coins, cheap coins each with a story... bwbollom Valued Member United States 293 Posts	Posted 04/15/2011 12:21 pm I remember seeing a VW Beetle covered in pennies at the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum in San Antonio, TX. At least I think that's what it was...it was a loooong time ago :) But it was definitely a small car of some sort completely covered in pennies. Report this Post to the Staff
