I was searching through my 1929 cents for a high 9 when I stumbled upon this coin. It looks like a low 9 is on top of a high 9. Comments?  |

That is a re-engraved doubling effect, and not Machine Doubling damage (MDD). I have known about the 1929/9 for some time now, and kept it quiet until I snagged one from the Torex auction (MS-64) this past winter. I'll post a photo later. numidan, SPP is THE go to person for Canadian small cent varieties, as well as nickel dollar stuff.

Congradulations, I got so excited I checked mine. No re-punch, but I did find a 1927 with ONE CENT re-punched. This is fun.

Another one, in MS-62 RB. You can see that the re-engraved 9 is consistent with my two examples and the example shown by numidan. What other coins have you been quiet about ;) Most of the coins I am hunting in mint state are not necessarily a secret. Zoell's work still remains the benchmark for small cent varieties. While I have found varieties that Zoell missed, Zoell found some stuff that I could not find in 5 years plus of hunting. I usually find the new varieties in circulated coins, then the hunt at coins shows for a mint state example begins. Also at the last Torex, I found a 1944 cent in ICCS MS-64 Red with the 944 doubled. Got it for the opening reserve bid at the auction (40% trends). If you want, I can post a photo of it too. Most references that I have, Zoell and Blais, do not have much for the 1920-1936 period. I am convinced that there are nice finds still to be discovered, so I have put some effort recently in that era. The 1929/9 is my most impressive find amongst others, that was not listed, so I decided to ask for your comments. Thank you for that.
