Mint Rolls - Is There Any Benefit? - Coin Community Forum

I have a roll of 1982 Constitution Dollars, and was not sure if there was any increased value to keeping them this way or not. tks! Report this Post to the Staff

yoda Valued Member Canada 103 Posts	Posted 08/04/2011 09:44 am to me the benefit is that they are protected by virtue of the roll, other than the 2 ends. As well, you can store alot of coins that way in a small amount of space. The downside is that if you care about keeping them in original rolls, you'll never know for sure how good the coins are. I've seen many rolls where all the coins were bagged up beyond any value in saving. Report this Post to the Staff
neweden Valued Member Canada 272 Posts	Posted 08/04/2011 7:06 pm The upside of collecting full BU rolls will be there condition, apart from the 2 end coins, the coins in the middle are usualy classed as MS-63 as a rule of thumb. The downside (as in your case) the coin is very common and may take some time should you wish to sell them. Of course (and this is just heresay) I have heard that the mint is recalling all nickel coins and if that is the case your coins may sell quicker than you think. As for myself I would be inclined to keep them as a roll, you never know.. Report this Post to the Staff
Libertad Pillar of the Community Canada 3692 Posts	Posted 08/05/2011 08:37 am I'm just reading the Charlton and I see that RCM rolls have their own mintages. You can consider the roll as one piece as opposed to 25 individual coins that might take you 25 times longer to sell should you wish to do so. As a rule of my own, when I'm not sure of something I should keep or not, I KEEP it and find more info on it in the future. Who knows how many keepers I circulated just by staying in the dark. A former co-working and fellow coin collector was cashing out his years worth of collecting to start stacking silver. I picked up some goodies from him including a couple 25 cent mint rolls (paper with mint logo on it) and a dozen 25 cent bank rolls that are plastic wrapped. All of them being commemorative issue coins. Is there any real collector value in these? Report this Post to the Staff
