I saw on the news (Channel 9) last Thursday a story about an upcoming auction where one of the items was a $100 note with the portrait of Dame Nellie Melba which was blue instead of black. Anyone know anything about this variety? I've searched but couldn't find anything about the variety or the auction.

Seem to recall her image comes in a few shades from blue-grey to dark-grey. Perhaps the ink is mixed on site which could explain slight variations in colour.
Haven't seen a very blue one though. Wish I saw more of them.

Maybe you're right about the ink mix, but the colour looked fairly consistent. I could be wrong, but I think the reporter describe it as unique too.

I know it's been a while but has anyone seen another one of these come up for sale, or know if there are any others?

Looks like it's been gone off the Strand Coins website since 2012 or so.

This is the information I have - which isn't much: https://www.coincuriosity.com/view/...portait.html
