Hi, some of you probably have read or posted about the WWII Canada coins in a frame and the 1940 50 cents. Anyway, I am still looking for advice.

There is a total of 16 coins from Canada and Great-Britain (8 silver, 3 bronze, 1 nickel brass, 1 copper, 1 tombac and 1 nickel plated steel) only one ten cents has a nice color toning and a silver three pence has light toning too. There is tape residue on only one side of all the coins. All of them could grade MS60+ even some MS65 but I will never know because of the tape residue one the obverse and the reverses have great detail.

Give me some advice please and not some that could ruins a set of coins that could be $5000+ in total!

If they are worth what you think then I would make no attempt to clean them.
Send them to a professional conservation company such as NCS
http://www.ncscoin.com/
Chances are that acetone will help with the tape residue but personally I only attempt to conserve low value coins.

We each reach our own comfort level with the conservatism of our decisions regarding "cleaning." Me, I would not hesitate to drop a $100,000 coin into acetone, because I know it's non-reactive with almost all metals and its' use is therefore undetectable. The only consideration for me, on a case-by-case basis, is what would be revealed when the acetone removes what's there.

This does not sound like a situation for that sort of caution - the tape residue has to go. It's very likely that acetone will do the job - research this forum for intelligent discussions on its' use. If by chance it does not, there is no other substance I'd recommend you try. NCS will be your fallback resource.

No CENTS repeating all that good advise so here it is again anyway.

Dave hit on the head! I've used acetone 4 or 5 times myself on MS coins and was very disappointed what I found once I removed the foreign debris.

Brand is not so important, check for the purity- should be >99%. Also perform an evaporation test in a clear glass bowl to check for contaminants before use.
