A couple of days or weeks ago I received in changed a smooth rollar coin and recently again. I have weighed them around and also taking real close looks to the edge and I can tell that they have been sanded down or filed down carefully due to the approximate if .2 grams weight different in fully leterred rim coins. I really don't have room for such coins for me, and came to this. I was wondering if I posted these on ebay and clearly indicated their fraudulent nature, would it get me kicked off ebay? Is it ethically right to post such an auction and mention within the auction that these have been weighed and looked at and confirmed to be 100% altered / fake smoothies? Can I post such auction and not risk getting booted nor bitten by a buyer saying he didn't know it was fake even though I stated clear so in the auction? I want your opinions as I am considering posting these two clearly fake smooth rim dollars up. Thanks! Edited by Sleaklight

As to selling something you know has been altered, and describing it as such in your auction... personally, I wouldn't. It seems to be a grey area as far as ebay is concerned. Selling a completely counterfeit coin is illegal under any circumstances (much to Swamperbob's chagrin), but in this case the coin is genuine, only the "mint error" would be fake. Another thing to consider: whoever bought it might not be as ethical as you are about describing it's fakeness; they might in fact be buying it with intent to deceive the next guy. I know, you shouldn't be responsible for the (potential) actions of others, but it's something to bear in mind. Finally, read this thread and ask yourself if you want to run the risk of something like this happening to you, as a seller.  Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Well, you could state they are replicas and not mention anything about them being counterfit. (don't think ebay likes that term) or you might be better off telling someone in person and asking if they want them for a few bucks. |

Even if you advertised them as altered, I don't think they'd sell and it certainly wouldn't be worth the hassle that it will cause you. I guarantee that at least one buyer will contact you for a return and then you're just going to lose even more money.
You could spend them. That's what I would probably do. Just put them in circulation.
