I've never heard of an entire roll of coins being certified, but I don't konw all that much about certification. This ebay listing ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-P-D-LI...em5411075b0d) purports to offer a roll of each of the 2009 Lincoln Cents from both Denver and Philadelphia (8 rolls) in at least MS 65 condition, or better. According to Numismedia values, that's at least $3,700 worth of coins. I wonder whether certifying entire rolls is a common, reliable practice. Anyone have an answer? I've seen that listing. Actually I think a certified roll is pretty cool and I might get one sometime just for the grins. I've seen them offered before. Keep in mind the price guide numbers are way high for those coins. Look at recent auction values for graded examples for a more realistic value. Plus you'd have to get them graded individually to sell them individually. I didn't know that ANACS graded rolls until about a week ago when I saw a couple of them on ebay.

I've never HEARD of such a thing, nor did I ever ponder that such a thing was possible.
Ya learn something new everyday, I guess.

Yes certified rolls exist from all four major services. They first started appearing around 2009 with the Bicentennial cents, but they also exist for Presidentail dollars and I have seen at least one roll of silver eagles.

In the late 1980s or early 1990s I remember seeing a roll of 1964 Halves that had a sticker, label thing across the ends marked as MS whatever roll, by the Almost Accurate Coin Grading Co., or some other now long defunct outfit.
It was at a small show in South Portland Me. I remember asking the dealer about it something about how did he know all the coins were graded correctly and his answer was along the line as because they say so, this is the future of collecting....
guess he wasn't so far wrong

I have never seen them with a grade from any of the TPGs. They simply seal the roll in whatever fashion they choose as original unc rolls. And I wonder about this persons MS65 claim. I dont believe thats from ANACS

If one bought these and sent the roll in to be certified individually--what happens if they crack them and the vast majority grade lower than 65? Does the TPG pay for the difference or is the collector out of luck?

Quote:I've definitely seen ANACS rolls graded MS65 and above. Here's a link http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANACS-Grade...047675.l2557 Everyone we're talking MS65 here. Not MS 69 or MS70. If you can't take a box of fresh cents from Loomis or a bag fresh from the mint and cherry pick the ones that don't have any wheel marks and not claim at least 50 MS65 to make a roll then the mint should stop selling coins outright and go back to producing circulating coinage for the mass public who don't use them anymore thanks to the 3% fee credit card world.

Not MS 69 or MS70. MS69 and MS70 fit neatly within the category of Quote: at least MS 65 condition, or better. I wasn't trying to determine the probability of putting a nice roll of cents together from a bank box. I was curious about the certification of an entire roll. I hadn't seen such a thing before yesterday.

So they are sealed and you can only see one side of the coins on the end?

The latest ICG slabbed rolls I've seen are opaque and you can't see any of the coins at all. PCGS roll NGC roll

See, THATS what I was thinking of. Them labeling as unc. BUT, as these are not still in the rolls, then yeah, saying 65 or better is fine. The pic I was looking at from the link originally posted appeared to be sealed mint rolls.
