biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 02/08/2008 1:33 pm Nope, only 1942-45 with the large reverse mint mark had silver content. All others are a copper-nickel alloy hence the name "nickel". Any US coin(not including half dimes) denominated "FIVE CENTS" has always been a copper-nickel alloy except for the War Nickels. Of the capped bust ones from 1829 - 1837 tha say 5C on them. :) Yes I know, technically and officially the were Half Dismes. I just wanted to be difficult. (And they were Half Dismes. Internally at the mint and in the official documents they didn't switch from Half Dismes to Half Dimes until 1837.) Report this Post to the Staff
