What's Your Best Junk Lot Find?

Yes, indeed!!

I got a 1916 D Mercury dime from an antique store dime box for about $2.50 a few years back.. Now it's in a ANACs AG-3 Holder and probably one of my favourite coins.

I couldn't tell you, I've got so many good deals that I honestly can't even personally remember myself.


Best for ebay: 1913 D T2 nickel marked as a 1913 D T1 coin, but pictures showed T2. Managed to win it for $7. Don't know if that counts as junk lot, just a cool coin I got for basically nothing that's worth $$$

Junk silver dimes: Countless Barber dimes, half a dozen Seated dimes, 1926 S x3, 1931 PDS, UNC mercury's, uncommon dates all @ melt
Junk silver quarters: Two Seated quarters @ melt, tons of Barber quarters from AG to F+, SLQ's with full dates 1925-1930S, 1932 S Washington along with many other different UNC washingtons and filler/uncommon dates
Junk nickels: At least 2 dozen 1883 N/C nickels from G-AU+ for $0.25, 1884,1887,1888,1889,1894,1912S all for junk price ($0.25-$0.75), Buff's that are partial and full date, but thrown in the junk buff bin for $0.25-$0.75 apiece (this includes 1913 S T1, 1914 in XF with luster, and all the rest here are G-XF+: 1915PS, 1916PDS, 1917PD, 1918PDS, 1919PS and a beautiful 1919D in VF, 1920PDS, 1921, 1923PS, 1924PDS, 1925PDS, 1926P and 1926 S x5 at least or more, ranging from G-VF, 1931 S, along with high grade AU+ 30's coins)
Junk cents: 1909 VDB x25 at least (all these were got for $0.05 apiece), 1910S, 1911PD, 1912PD, 1913PDS, 1914PS, 1915PDS, 1916PDS, 1917PDS, 1918PDS, 1919PDS, 1920PDS, 1921PS, 1922D x4, 1923PS, 1924PS and a 1924D, 1925PDS, 1926PD and quite a few 1926S's, 1927PDS, 1928PDS, 1929PDS, 1930PDS, 1931PD, 1932PD, 1933PD and so on...

Junk Halves: Countless Barber halves in AG-VG+, Walking halves (1916S in AG I got a few weeks ago, 1917 D obv mintmark also got same day as 1916S, 1919P in amazing condition; a nice F-VF at least, and other misc dates from the 20's and 30's and some nice AU-UNC 1940's as well)
Junk dollars: Not much here, but did manage to get a 1903 S Morgan with VG details, reverse is also rainbow colored from what appears to be some chemical that spilled on it, maybe gas? Also was a 1894 O Dollar in VG+

Can't really think of anything else but there's def a lot more. Little over half a dozen Shield nickels from FR-02 to VG+, several 2 cent pieces for $8 apiece.

The story behind is that I bought a small purse on a fleamarket, and inside, voila, a nice barber. It was in a neat condition, but loads of verdigris, which removed nicely with acetone, however, seems like NGC didn't quite like that. (I am a proffesional coin-dealer, so I know my way around restoring coins, just as good as NCS(almost atleast)), this is the first time I've gotten a coin back improperly cleand.
I've also found a 1853-O arrows dime in a junklot, now in an NGC- AU-holder. Also gotten an IHC 1886 type 2, now in an MS61 grade. So, Yeah, quite a good bunch of allright american stuff over here in Norway.
also, a completely flat 1794-cent, but still readable date :D
