My first post...hope I do it right! The 9 in 1981 is deformed. The back side of the penny looks like it has been through the ringer! Please share your thoughts!
@cambee, first welcome to CCF. Second, you did a great job with these pics! As far as that number 9 goes, it looks to me like damage after the cent left the mint. I'm sure others will weigh in too with their thoughts.

Yes - damage from circulation. Usually if one side is damaged then most other anomalies on the other side are also damage. Just ask yourself - "How could this be done in the minting process"
