Missing Clad On Both Sides? - Coin Community Forum

heatherlynn New Member United States 11 Posts	Posted 01/30/2017 09:50 am Help! I've got a 2001 P Connecticut State Quarter that is funky looking. Looks like it is missing the clad on both sides of the coin. Uploading pics along with a normal 2001 P Connecticut State Quarter for comparison. Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated! Please note that not every discolored coin is found metal detecting or in any particular type of soil. The toning you are showing will happen if you leave it out in the sun on a rail or banister for a couple years. Or on just about any surface. Clad coins (almost said tokens) discolor much more than silver coins in a shorter period of time. The reason I'm elaborating on this is that a lot of folks who have apparently never metal detected give that hobby the nod whenever a "tarnished" coin is found. In fact, almost all silver coins come out of the ground just as shiny as the day they were dropped. While clad like this one will discolor, there are a lot of ways that discoloration could occur - not JUST metal detecting finds. Report this Post to the Staff
