Boy, a Proof 66 gold piece that was moving abound in its holder would scare the heck out of me.

I doubt there will be scrape marks from silicone rubber prongs, but eventually there could be rim wear. If I owned it and it bothered me, I'd pay $10 to have it reholdered. I have a Bust dollar that is rotated in the slab and I haven't done anything about it.

A beauty for sure! But if it shifts a little, no big deal. I'm just talking about expensive, high-grade proof coins, especially gold. Makes me a bit twitchy.

Annoying, but not such a big deal.

Quote: Buy the coin not the slab. The coin is fine, it is the slab that is rotated.

I was expecting fingerprints. Reading this thread all I could think of was The Day A Bar of Ivory Soap Sank.
Oh, and Andrew, your coin should be insulted

If the coin is not moving relative to the prongs, but the prongs are moving relative to the case, there will be no rim wear. However, if you look at the Bust Dollar, the prongs are in exactly the right place, at 12 o'clock, 4 o'clock, and 8 o'clock, so the coin is moving. Not to mention that for NGC holders, the Teflon or whatever that white material is, looks like it is carved from a single piece so cannot rotate itself.

The one at 7 could easily be moved to 12 and you have the coin basically straight in the holder. Knowing how they grip the coin I would have to see a coin physically rotating without the prong moving to believe they have that ability. Their prongs are more pliable and generally seem to have a more snug fit. NGC's is a single piece but their prongs are harder and coins can wobble from the gap in them. Those I could believe there could be some coins that could rotate in them on the ones with a less snug fit though I don't recall seeing it happen off the top of my head.

No, if the prong was in the right position, and the coin was in the right position the top prong would be over IBERT. So even if you rotated the 8:00 prong up to the top position the coin would still be rotated in the holder. It's the coin that is moving not the prongs.

Who cares. Really. If you can't tap it send it in for a fix. If I owned it though I probably wouldn't bother because.. Who cares
