1942 P Jefferson War Nickel Stamping Error?

Lonedan New Member United States 7 Posts	Posted 11/10/2008 12:28 pm i am new to coin side of this site. i have been on the stamp side. i have a War Nickel that I think was a striking error. i want to see if anyone agrees with me and if it has any value the error goes from the e in we in an angle to the shoulder. if you can enlarge you can see it better Report this Post to the Staff

TreasHunt Pillar of the Community United States 2540 Posts	Posted 11/10/2008 12:39 pm Dan: 1st: it is not a 'stamping' error, but a minting error (sorry but use of correct terminology is important); 2nd: definite lamination, nice one too, but common on War Nickels because of mix of metals during the war. biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 11/10/2008 12:59 pm It is a lamination, caused by improper mixing of the metal alloy. The striking of the coin had nothing to do with this, it is just a flaw in the metal itself. Some of the more dramatic examples can have a premium but most do not and in a few cases, the lamination could lower the value because it could be seen as an undesirable flaw.
