Hi, joined coin forum to find out some info about a coin I found while cleaning in the basement. Does anybody have any idea what it is? Loos Roman. That's about all I can figure out. Thank you for any info.

May I suggest cropped, in-focus pictures that are oreinted properly, plus a weight and diameter? I believe that the legend around the portrait should be readable with better pictures.

Correct, it's a debased-silver tetradrachm from Roman-occupied Egypt. The language on the coin will be Greek. The reverse shows the date as being the first year of reign of the emperor, but we can;t equate that to a specific year without identifying the emperor. Sometime in the 200s AD, judging by the portrait; we'd need to see a clearer pic to identify the emperor.

Despite the focus issue Some letters are just clear enough to decipher ΔIOK Which narrows it down to the Emperor Diocletian
Nice looking coin in what appears to be EF condition
A quick search came up with this attribution
Diocletian AE Tetradrachm Alexandria Egypt AD 284/285 Obv. A K Γ OΥAΛ ΔIOKΛHTIANOC CEB laureate and cuirassed bust right Rev. Tyche reclining left on lectisternium, holding rudder and resting head upon hand LA (date) to upper left Geissen 3208

PS
As you are likely new at handling something nearly 2 thousand years old ....... Resist the temptation to whip out the copper cleaner ! Do not mess with something you don't have a clear knowledge about ! But that being said If you want to use a tiny tiny dab of mineral oil with a Qtip it may make it easier to photograph on a dark background
