Having just received the new Charlton guide I thought it was time to go through my 65's, I have just always threw them in a pot and maybe later check through them, that time has come, I have just spent most of the morning going through about 2000 1965 pennies looking for one with the double bud, sadly I found none, but what I did notice on several AU coins were the deterioration of the stem on the leaf just above the 5, at least two showed a large gap in the stem, with no visible sign of the stem at all.
All was not lost on my search as I found a double 965 and several pointed 5's two of which were variety 4.
I conclude from this that the double bud is much rarer than the pointed 5's.

I'm not sure about value, but I believe the double bud is an actual doubled die. Photos of some of your finds would be nice.

First of all, to CCF.

I am also pleased that the 70th edition Charlton has inspired some folks to go back and search their small cents.

Not an extra bud variety, just a regular 65 cent.
