I've just started selling my dads coins on ebay. I haven't sold on there in a while. I need help with insuring some of my sales. I didn't realize that coins are not insured by Shipcover. Will USPS cover them? Also any tips on selling would be greatly appreciated.  |

Yes USPS should cover them as long as there is proof of delivery added as well as insurance. What values are you selling at? Registered mail should be used on any thing really expensive (over $1000) to be safe, priority will be covered automatically up to $50 then you have to add insurance.
Most dealers use a 3rd party insurer as coin and bullion shipments can be tricky to claim on if there is a problem, most of the time in my experience the will automatically deny any claim without proof of value. Then again I haven't had to make a claim in over 2 decades (knock on wood).

If you are shipping smaller coins (dimes, nickels, quarters) that were sold for less than $20, you can use ebay's standard envelope, which costs 57 cents to ship and includes tracking and insurance up to $20 per coin. Coins with higher value can be shipped priority mail (about $7.50 for a flat rate envelope) that now includes $100 insurance. Or you can just ship USPS package rate ($3.50 to $4.00) and self insure, since you could easily cover the cost of a rarely lost package by what you save in insurance fees over time. |

I figured I should insure anything over $100. I don't think I have anything that's worth thousands. But u never know. What is a third party insurer? At what value do u think I should get proof of delivery, or is tracking enough? Thanks for your patience with all my questions but I'm truly a novice.  |

Is the standard envelope obtained from ebay? I'm not familiar with that. Is is secure enough for a few coins? Ty!! |

Here's the info on ebay's standard envelope. You just use your own envelope and print a label via ebay. It's a huge benefit for lower value coins because you can mail up to 3 coins in flips for less than the cost of a first class letter, and it includes tracking and some insurance. https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/s...ard-envelope |
