I was not able to find a reasonably priced AMP but I made out really good on a couple of other purchases . I found a nice AMP and overpaid a bit for it , I'll make it up somewhere down the line ( hopefully find 1 !!! ) .

The AMP was a tough go from the getgo. It was not as widely distributed as the later issues but beaucoups of them showed up on ebay in roll quantities from the mid-West locales during the first few weeks of issue.

The Mint and Fed made a huge error in judgement when they shipped those W's in Ballistic Bag quantities to the armored car companies expecting them to blend them in to the regular P and D boxes. The armored car employees aren't stupid and figured out what was going on real quick and they were swapping them out and selling the W's on line or to their local coin dealers. (Yes, I'm a conspiracy theorist when it comes to coin and currency distribution!)

I ended up buying a roll of AMP W coins for stupid (at the time!) money —- 495$ —- from an ebay dealer. I quickly picked out the best 20 coins and sold the other 20 and recovered my money! Of the 20 I kept the two best ones were sent to ANACS for certification and I got a 66 on both of them.

Fast forward when I was CRH for the subsequent issues, I was able to find pretty much all the others over time. Eventually, I did get an AMP W in change, from a Target no less!

That was, and still is, the only AMP W I got in the wild!

Westernsky, where are you located generally? And which issue(s) do you find most often? I am in the Southwest and the AMP is the most common issue that I find, along with Weir Farm. Of the 128 total W's that I have found CRHing, nearly half (45%) have been either of those two. On the other hand, I have only found 6 each of the Marsh Billings, War in Pacific and San Antonio Missions.

Hinterlander

I'm in the North Texas area. When me and my daughter were searching Loomis boxes back during the pandemic we were finding anywhere between 20 and 40 W's in boxes that were new coins. The boxes with mixed new and old coins had few, if any, W's in them. I was fortunate in that my daughter worked for a big box retailer and she was able to score 500$ boxes of quarters when they were dropped off by the armored car people. We kept a supply of 500$ boxes handy so the swap outs were easy to do so the store always had quarters available.

She and I split the finds 50/50 and I have 1st dibs on her stash if she decides to part with her coins in the future. All total we ended up with close to 600 coins between us when we quit searching thru boxes.

We found more Bats and Weir Farm coins than anything else.

It was fun while it lasted!

Since my last post, about four and a half months ago when I had 64 total, I have doubled my total to 128.

I have had some ok luck recently , I'm up to 12 . I've averaged about 3-400 dollars searched for 1 W minted coin.

I found an AMP ( on my birthday actually ). 2 Weir Farm and 1 Marsh Billings . The only one that I have not found is Soma . It's strange that ebay listings for the Soma Bat are pretty reasonable but Memorial Park is always priced high .

I'm up to 16 !!! AND I found the Somoa Bat !!! I have complained plenty about the dry spells but in about 9 months I have found all 10 coins !!!

I have been super busy at work so my daily searches have turned into 2 or 3 a week . I had 2 occasions that I found 2 W coins in a 120 dollar lot ( 12 rolls ). I have found some more S business stuff also , I love finding those but nothing really matches the rush of a " W " , lol.

I have been looking hard at the Hawaiian Women's obverse for the die clash , I have seen photo examples so subtle that I'm sure I would miss them. And every Wisconsin State Quarter I come across gets more of my time than it should , lol.

You only need to check the Denver minted ones for the high/low leaf varieties but it wouldn't hurt to check the Philadelphia minted ones if you have time for minor doubling and things like that..

Yes, they started in 2019 and kept doing it for the rest of the ATB run (except Tuskegee). They were only released into circulation, you could not buy them from the Mint.
