Hi All,

I am brand new to bills and have a question. In the 1973 Lawson Bouey one dollar bill series, I usually see 3 letter prefixes. I came across some two letter prefixes AA, haven't seen two letter prefixes before.are they anything special? Can anyone educate me on these? Thanks!!!

Nice notes!

The AA prefix was one of the first prefix's printed so these would be some of the earliest notes to be issued into circulation in 1973. I have attached a link with a list of all 2 letter and 3 letter prefixes for the Lawson Bouey signatures. They did 2 letters for quite a while before switching to the 3 letter format.

to the world of paper money!

Q60driver pretty much answers your question. I just want to add that on the plus side, your note is a first prefix & a lot of World collectors go for these. On the negative side, there were over a billion of these 1973 $1.00 issued. About 2/3 of these were the first Lawson Bouey signature & the last 1/3 with the Crow Bouey signature so they're not really "special."

The more difficult (or "special" ones) would be the * (or X) replacements, signature (or lithograph/steel engraved) change-overs, special serial numbers or test notes. The C&C link Q60driver provided gives more info on the replacements & test notes.

I created a "Notable Terms" page for new collectors on my Notaphilyc Culture site below:

Hope that helps!
