Though a few months since its initial release, Canada's Peace Dollar for 2025 (in its various forms) remains available to order on the Mint's web site. Not too long ago, each new release of the coin was met with enthusiasm and a quick depletion of the Mint's inventory. What happened?
Is it a matter of collector fatigue? Too many releases of the same design? I purchased the first year's issue in 2020 (as well as the medal that preceded it) because I thought they were a one-year-only special issue, but then realized the Mint was embarking on a new Dollar coin series. I didn't want to start such a collecting endeavor, so I stopped my purchases.
This year's coin features a new namesake design (attractive IMO), a new diameter (38mm vs. 36.15mm), a new weight (31.29g vs. 30.76g) and a new monarch's portrait.(King Charles III vs. Queen Elizabeth II). The 2025 coin also appears to have dropped the high relief that distinguished the previous Peace Dollar coins. The new coin definitely instills, IMO, a series "reboot" feel.
What are your thoughts? What do you think is the reason behind the apparent malaise? Are you a buyer?

@commems The Canadian Peace dollar series never really appealed to me. It seemed as a parallel series to the Canadian Commemorative silver dollar (36 mm) of which I am a collector. Just my opinion.

When the RCM sees high interest in a particular coin they normally try to capitalize with follow up coins. Swarovski coins, Birds, Dinosaurs, Pysanka coins etc etc etc. As beautiful as they are, this was the primary reason that caused me to stop purchasing the NCLT many years ago.

@Sharks: I'm with you! Quote:When the RCM sees high interest in a particular coin they normally try to capitalize with follow up coins Couldn't agree more. I've done my best to stay away from the gimmicks and generally kept my focus on unadorned 36mm silver coins! (I admit to straying now and again, however. )

Fully agree with Darryl. These are beautiful coins, first two years they sparkled everyone's interest, but later I believe the interest was also driven by variety of investors and dealers who drained RCM's stock. Another strong series with slowly declining interest - Pysanka coins. Situation in Ukraine and local community keeps the demand on "slow burn", but it isn't as popular as few years ago.

What you are seeing are the same issues with modern US commemoratives. Uninteresting designs and too many minted. The 2023 Morgans and Peace are selling below their issue price and the modern comms in many cases sell for bullion value.
Too much of a "good" thing makes them worth less.
