Canada 1965 Silver Uncirculated Coin Set In Pliofilm - Inter Parliamentary Union Card?

Andrew P Crellin New Member Australia 9 Posts	Posted 02/06/2025 02:01 am I have a Canadian 1965 6-coin set - prooflike Uncirculated in the pliofilm sleeve. It is in an envelope that contains a card relating to the Inter-Parliamentary Union event held in Ottowa that year. Is this a known "variety" of the set? Does the social history add to the appeal the set has? The coins in the set appear to be standard for the issue - I expect it is a scarce card but am not sure if there would be any interest in it. From what I understand from the vendor, they were gifted to international diplomats in Ottowa for the event, they visited the Mint and were gifted one each. Report this Post to the Staff

FYI: The Mint has distributed a number of novel souvenir sets to visiting VIPs over the years, so the creation of this set for the Canadian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is not unprecedented. Andrew P Crellin New Member Australia 9 Posts	Posted 02/11/2025 03:29 am I appreciate your feedback, I thought the card would add a bit more interest to the set. I know sometimes different or specially-struck coins can be used when gifting to dignitaries, that has happened in Australia at least. I've checked these coins with a glass and have compared them against the information in a fairly old copy of Charlton (62nd edition). From what I can see, the 1c in this set has a blunt 5 and the A in REGINA points at the bead (Large beads), which would make it a Variety 3. The 5 on the dollar also looks to be the blunt type, while the I in REGINA shoots slightly to the right of the rim bead. From what I can see, that would also make it a variety 3. The editor states the Type 3 dollar (or Types 4 or 5) weren't included in the PL sets for 1965, have I made an error with my identification? Report this Post to the Staff

chadcoins Pillar of the Community Canada 1159 Posts	Posted 02/11/2025 11:20 am Your penny looks small bead to me but I could be wrong. The RCM made special envelopes for 1991 and 1993 for events with miner extra value add. But it is a nice set with no black blotching. Report this Post to the Staff
Andrew P Crellin New Member Australia 9 Posts	Posted 02/11/2025 9:46 pm The images I uploaded were fairly low resolution, looking at the 1c again under a glass I can see that it is indeed the small beads type and not the large beads.
