Now that we're in a new year does anyone have a hunch on what the RCM will choose to commemorate on circulation coins in 2025? Are there any significant anniversaries this year?

Round anniversary date of end of the WWII
Hopefully no 1935 - 2025 Voyageur SD .... this will be unnecessary imo

Centennial of the birth of Oscar Peterson. I would buy whatever commemorative they produce.

@Hondo Boguss: Did you pick up any of the Mint's 2022 coins for Oscar Peterson?

Here are some of the Government of Canada's "Anniversaries of Significance " for 2025:

- 25th anniversary of the repatriation of Canada's Unknown Soldier
- 50th anniversary of Parliament naming the beaver as an official symbol of Canada
- 75th anniversary of Inuit gaining the right to vote in federal elections
- 100th anniversary of the birth of jazz pianist and composer Oscar Peterson
- 150th anniversary of the creation of the Supreme Court of Canada
- 250th anniversary of the Invasion of Québec during the American War of Independence

It seems likely that one or more will make its way to a coin, but I haven't yet seen an official order for any..

commems, thanks for that list!

Given that this is the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the beaver as a symbol of Canada, and the fact that the nickel is the only denomination of coin to not have a commemorative version for a very long time (the dime had a makeover in 2021 on the anniversary of the Bluenose), I wonder if we might see a unique nickel this year.

@Rustoleum: Don't forget about the special design on the five-cent coin of 2017 - it features a highly-stylized beaver and dual-dates.

The piece was a circulating commemorative for Canada's 150th Anniversary! (Collector versions were also available.)

It seems like a good possibility.

I don't image we will see Oscar Peterson so soon again since he was just on the Loonie in 2022.

Though I would love to see a commemorative nickel design, I feel like, in general, they are sticking to just commemorative Loonies and Toonies as the retail price the Mint sells them for justifies the temporary redesign.

from something I came across some time ago, here is what we might be seeing:

- $1-coin (150th anniversary of creation of Supreme Court of Canada)
- $2-coin (25th anniversary of repatriation of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier)
- $2-coin (Daphne Odjig - First Nations artist - not sure of anniversary of anything at all, except maybe 50 years since the dissolution of the Professional Native Indian Artists Inc., (PNIAI), or the "Indian Group of Seven)

All coins would have a colour and a non-colour version
